SIG Saturday Program

Program Overview

During the six-week session, students in grades 1-6 will be engaged in creative intellectual challenges that apply their knowledge of such academic topics as math, science and social studies, as well as promote the development of communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Students will be grouped by grade, with a unique problem scenario at each level. In the final portion of the program, students will incorporate the skills and knowledge they have learned in building solutions to their problem.

Grades 1 & 2 – Weather Woes: One Town’s Dreaded Drought – A simulated drought allows students to examine the ecological and societal problems a community might experience, and then work through the scientific process to resolve the situation.

Grades 3 & 4 – Digging Into Archaeology – Unexpected artifacts in a simulated construction site enable students to learn about the culture and history preserved underground while determining a way to continue the building project.

Grades 5 & 6 – Outbreak at Stake – In this simulation of a tuberculosis outbreak, future doctors will learn about microbiology and immunology and study the biological and social significance of disease and public health.
